Building off of the hover button from the previous video, we’re going to add a click interaction to the button to show a popup folder. As you can see in the final version of this experience, we can still hover over the button we previously created. However, now when we click on it, we’re greeted with a popup window and a close icon to exit the window. Although this demo is only turning on the visibility of a few basic objects, you can always create more intricate designs by targeting more objects, folders, or groups.
To get started with this lesson, let’s ensure the popup folder’s visibility is turned off by default in the layers panel. Next, let’s navigate over to our original button. As you can see in the subsequent menu, you can add as many different interactions as you want. In this case, we’ll only have two, but feel free to combine multiple actions and triggers to achieve your desired effect.
In the previous video, we made sure to check off “use group as trigger” to trigger the hover object state of the button. Checking this button automatically creates two interactions on the button—we're going to edit the existing on-click interaction. Let’s adjust it to have an on-click trigger with a show action and then choose our popup folder as the target. Note that you'll also want to deselect the button group.
Essentially, this would be enough to get our popup to show. However, we want the user to be able to exit out of this window. To accomplish this, let’s turn on the visibility of the popup folder in the layers panel and add a hotspot on top of the close icon. As you may have already guessed, we’re going to want to add an interaction to this hotspot that hides the popup folder when clicked. Try setting up this interaction on your own. Once you've finished, go ahead and turn off the visibility of the popup in your layers panel. Then, navigate back over to your preview to see if your click action works as intended.
Be sure to check out the next video, where we will cover two more click interactions: go to URL and open URL in a lightbox.
