Accessibility: The Dos and Don’ts When Working in Studio

When creating accessible content in the Studio, there can be a lot to remember—so we’ve put together this list of Dos and Don’ts to help guide you while creating your content!

Dos

  • Turn on Accessibility in your Settings Panel for each accessible experience

  • Use the Ceros live text tool (making sure you’ve adjusted your letter and line spacing to be at least .12 times your font size, and 1.5 times your font size, respectively)

  • Use a color contrast validator tool to make sure you can read your text color over your background color

  • Add Alt Tags to any important images in the experience

  • Add Aria labels to any visual or interactive component that you want your screen reader to communicate to your user

  • Check the layout of your bounding boxes to ensure that your content will be read out in the order that you want

  • For popups, make sure that your “trigger” and “target” are in the same parent group

  • Organize your Layers Panel using groups, grouping your assets by section

  • Add HTML section tags to each group

  • Create a Toggle Reduce Motion button, if you've added animations to your experience

  • Add header tags to all of your visible headings

  • Test your experience with a screen reader

Note: Please refer to our Accessibility Tools Glossary to learn more about several of the above points.

Don’ts

  • Don’t use images of text (if you must use an image of text, make sure you add an alt tag)

  • Don’t use folders to organize your Layers Panel, solely use groups

  • Don’t use the “Scroll to position” interaction for navigation. Instead, use “Scroll to Object”

  • Don’t neglect to test your content for accessibility

  • Don’t build out your experience, then try to make it accessible after the fact. Build with accessibility in mind and use all the accessibility features throughout
