Commenting on PDF Text in MarkUp

With MarkUp, you can highlight and comment on specific portions of text within PDF files. This enhances the clarity and relevance of your feedback, helping collaborators understand exactly what each comment pertains to within the document.

How to comment on text in a MarkUp

  • Upload the PDF to MarkUp, then open the MarkUp

  • While viewing the MarkUp in ‘Comment mode’, navigate to the text you want to comment on, then select it to create a comment pin

  • Start typing to leave your feedback

  • When finished, select ‘Post’

    • Additionally, you can use MarkUp’s comment tools (annotations, highlighting, etc.) to enhance the clarity of your feedback

Note: You can repeat this process to leave as many comment pins on text as you like

Important Notes

  • When providing feedback on a PDF in MarkUp, you can combine traditional area comments with text-specific comments. This allows for both general observations and precise, text-targeted insights within the same review.

  • Text selection has been carefully optimized to integrate seamlessly with existing MarkUp workflows, ensuring a smooth and responsive user experience without compromising interface performance.

  • MarkUp supports collaborative reviewing by allowing multiple reviewers to comment on the same text selection. All feedback is organized and visible, promoting a transparent and efficient review process.

  • If needed, you can revert any PDF uploaded to MarkUp back to the previous image-based format. To do this, locate the MarkUp in your dashboard, click the menu icon, and select ‘Convert to images’. This can be helpful for workflows that rely on the legacy commenting experience.
